Apparently Illinois is the hot bed for athletes for this year's winter Olympics in China, as one more Illinoisan has been added to the roster to represent our country.

Just announced yesterday morning, via NBC ChicagoAddison, IL native Alexa Scimeca Knierim and her husband Christopher were selected "to the U.S. pairs figure skating team for the Pyeongchang Olympics."

This announcement came after "Scimeca Knierim took home the gold at the U.S. championships [on] Saturday."

Congratulations to Alexa and Christopher. One for winning th gold on Saturday and two for heading to the Olympics to represent our country in pairs figure skating.

According to the NBC Chicago article, Alexa and her husband will be joining fellow Illinoisan, Bradie Tennell of Carpentersville, "as well as Mirai Nagasu and Karen Chen of the U.S. women's team, plus Nathan Chen, Vincent Zhou and Adam Rippon on the men's team" for the USA's Olympic skating teams.

Can we say awesome.

It's nice to know there is still some good coming out of Illinois that we can be proud of.

Now I definitely know who I will be routing for during my favorite event of the wholeThe pair joins Carpentersville native Bradie Tennell, as well as Mirai Nagasu and Karen Chen of the U.S. women's team, plus Nathan Chen, Vincent Zhou and Adam Rippon on the men's team.. I love the figure skating segments. whether it's pairs, or singles (male or Female). There's just something magical watching them float on the ice.
