Why Parents Of Small Children Should Be Concerned About YouTube
Many parents let their little ones watch because of the all the educational materials and kid cartoons but after seeing this it may change your mind.
I was appalled by what I found on the viewing history on my Youtube account. I searched "Peppa The Pig" and gave my phone to my four-year-old on this specific day and was surprised by her reaction within a few minutes. "Daddy, this is scare-wee! I want Ryan!" (Ryan = Ryan Toys Review... every parent's Hell.) Anyway, I figured the Peppa video was about spiders or bugs or something and quickly found Ryan (sigh). After going back to see what was so scary I found this...
Fear not though, parents - there is a safe(r) alternative to Youtube... and it pains me to say... it was created by Youtube.
My four-year-old now watching Ryan on YT Kids app. The app, in case you've never heard of it, was created specifically for impressionable eyes.
We created YouTube Kids to make it safer and simpler for kids to explore the world through online video – from their favorite shows and music to learning how to build a model volcano (or make slime ;-), and everything in between. There’s also a whole suite of parental controls, so you can tailor the experience to your family’s needs.
I've searched for about as much NSFW content as possible on YT Kids and have yet to find anything sneak through the filters. For now. You can download it from iTunes here and Google here.
