So hopefully winter weather is almost at an end. This is the first real winter I've ever been through. In the south we get ice, which shuts the city down due to lack of salt trucks. but this winter was definitely a real one to me. We have that crazy Polar Vortex in January to thank for most our extremely cold temperatures. According to Accuweather.com, we officially broke the coldest temperature record ever in Illinois in January.

Back on January 5th in 1999 we set a cold weather record of -36 degrees. This year on January 31st we destroyed the old record in Mt. Carroll Illinois with the new record at -38 degrees. I can't even imagine the wind chill factor on that day. Meteorologists went on to say that January 2019 was the coldest artic outbreak in at least 20 years. Hopefully we're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel as the temps forecasted in the next week are definitely on the rise, and not a moment too soon.

I will never forget the day this year we hit -51 with the wind chill. Here's hoping for some Spring weather in the next few days. Come on spring weather, we need you now
