With marijuana becoming legal at the beginning of the year, many new laws went into effect with it. Like only medical cultivation sites in Illinois can grow the marijuana that is sold here. Meaning there is a demand for individuals who know how to properly grow and cultivate marijuana plants.

Western Illinois University took this as an opportunity and will now be offering a "growing cannabis" minor. It will require 18 to 19 credit hours with additional coursework with the department of biological sciences according to WREX.

The fact that it is legal, we should start embracing all the potential jobs that it offers. It's big business. There's more to it than just the dispensary and all the jobs that they provide. It's nice to see Western Illinois is preparing their students for the jobs of tomorrow and not the ones we are losing today.
