Another weekend in Rockford has turned tragic with the death of a man who was reportedly working with Jehovah's Witnesses when he was shot.

According to the Rockford Police Department press release, the incident happened in the 1300 block of 7th Avenue as 54-year-old Miguel Perez of Rockford waited in his vehicle for family members visiting residents in the area.

Around 11:30 am, witnesses saw a gunshot come from a white vehicle passing the area that reportedly struck Mr. Perez who was seated in his vehicle, according to the Winnebago County Coroner's press release.

Following their investigation into the shooting, Rockford Police identified a 15-year-old juvenile male suspect who is currently wanted for First Degree Murder.

At the time this article was published, the juvenile male suspect was not in custody.
