With Christmas package delivery season in full gear, now we have to worry about getting assaulted at the front door of our homes.

Just when you think you've seen and heard it all come this.

A resident was assaulted by a man dressed up as a UPS driver delivering a package to his door. His home security camera captured the footage.

ABC13 reports that in this incident the homeowner was robbed and severely beaten after he opened his front door to a man who was posing as a UPS driver. UPS was not involved in this incident.

When the door was opened, the man and three others stormed inside and assaulted the homeowner with a pistol. At some point during the struggle, a shot was fired, but no one was struck.

Two other females in the home grabbed two small children and were able to lock themselves in closets. Police say the men stole several pieces of jewelry and collectible firearms.

For me, this will set a new tone for me when the doorbell rings. Look for the following:

  • If you don't have a peephole, on your front door, get one.
  • Look for the delivery truck in the street, if you can. If you don't see a properly labelled delivery vehicle, don't answer the door. If you unsure, tell the delivery person to leave the package on your doorstep and retrieve it later
  • Get to know your mail delivery person and your UPS driver. Usually it is the same person who serves your house on a regular basis.

No reports of similar incidents have been reported in the Stateline yet, but similar incidents have occurred in other parts of the country and officials are worrying that more of these occurrences may occur happening.

Just be vigilant.
