Rockford Police are turning to the public for information related to a shooting crime that took place on Wednesday afternoon in Rockford.

What makes this situation is that a third person who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time was seriously injured and fighting for his life.

Rockford police say the 69 year old victim Wednesday's shooting remains in critical condition continues to be treated for life-threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Rockford Police Department continue to investigate the shooting and follow-up on leads provided by the community. Based on several of those leads investigators have been able to locate and recover both the Maroon Nissan SUV and the Blue Mazda SUV believed to be involved in the shooting incident. At this time no arrests have been made and no charges have been authorized against any suspects related to this shooting.

At 4:30 p.m on Wednesday, Rockford Police say they received a call of shots fired. Police believe the shots came from that came from two vehicles at North Longwood and Rural Streets. One vehicle was red in color and the other was blue.

When officers arrived, both involved vehicles fled from the area. Unfortunately, one occupant of an uninvolved third vehicle was injured in the crossfire. Police say a 69-year-old man was struck by one of the rounds. The man, who's name was not released, was transported to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition with life threatening injuries.
