Sure, this headline may seem like it's straight out of the fake news folder, but shockingly, it's 100 percent true.

Ridiculous Medical Cost in the United States

I think we would all agree that healthcare costs are ridiculous in the United States, and this includes the cost of dental care too.

Even with insurance, major medical and dental procedures can cost thousands of dollars out of pocket, and this often leads to people ignoring medical issues, or worse yet, looking for the cheapest way to get them resolved.

Here's the perfect example of why you should never base medical or dental decisions strictly on price.

Rockford Woman Arrested for Performing Illegal Dentistry

Today I read an article on mystateline.com that made me stop and say, "what the heck?"

The article was about a Rockford woman named Monica Davis who was recently sentenced for running an unlicensed dental hustle called "The Veneer Experts", in a Schaumburg strip mall.

Just so we are all clear here, yes she was performing real dental work on real human mouths.

Prosecutors say Davis slapped on fake braces and at least one patient walked away with a chipped tooth. Yikes.

Even more bizarre? Before opening her "practice" in Schaumburg, Davis was reportedly doing the same thing in a Las Vegas strip mall and got arrested for it.

Davis was arrested in Illinois in April 2024, but just pleaded guilty to aggravated battery causing great bodily harm this week . The sentence? Two years of probation, including three months of home confinement and a $512 fine. What? Only a $512 fine? I'm sure she charged double that for her knock off braces.

As a proud Rockford native, I’d just like to say: We may get a bad rap sometimes, but illegal dentistry? That’s a new one.

Let this be a lesson: if the braces come without a bill, an x-ray, or a diploma on the wall... maybe keep your mouth shut. Literally.
