2 Illinois Truckers Experience The Same Unfortunate Event On The Same Morning
Have you ever been driving and wondered "how would a semi-trailer fit through there?" or "What would happen if a truck hit that?" It's a random thought, I know, but look up at objects above you're under a low ceiling of a structure.
The next time you're waiting in a drive-thru look at the overhang and see if it is damaged. If it's all crumbled and jumbled you can bet someone hit it with a box truck. Luckily, I've never done that but I have gotten stuck in a drive-thru line because I couldn't make the turn while pulling a trailer. (Super embarrassing, btw.)
HEADS UP!
Several years ago I heard the BOOM caused by a semi-truck trailer crashing into a train viaduct in Rockford, Illinois. I'll never forget the sound, it was like a small explosion. The damage was incredible and the driver walked away physically unscathed. This happened very early in the morning.
Something similar happened in Joliet, Illinois on the same day. at the same time, but with two different trucks.
May 5, 2022, was a bad day for two different truck drivers and it happened in Joliet, Illinois.
I hope these drivers bought a lottery ticket despite their unfortunate accidents because this has to be an incredibly rare situation.
It's worth noting traffic flows from north to south in both directions, meaning vehicles travel in one direction, and the two-lane road splits as drivers enter the viaduct.
Two birds, one viaduct.
Just before 5:30 am police were attending to a semi-truck 1, which struck the viaduct in the left lane, according to reports.
While police were on the scene, this happened on the other side.
As you can imagine, this completely blocked traffic for quite a while.
Neither driver was injured except maybe their confidence. Both were cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
