Tonight’s Powerball Jackpot is the 6th Largest Ever

CBS News reports that the estimated jackpot for tonight's Powerball drawing has increased to $450 million.

There has not been a grand prize winner for Powerball since Nov. 4th making it the sixth largest lottery payout in the United States.

There is reason for some optimism, one of the all time largest lottery winners was from here in Illinois.

The biggest jackpot ever paid out was $656 Million. Three winning tickets were purchased for the March 30, 2012 Mega Millions drawing (for a cash payout of $471 million).  Merle and Patricia Butler of the small town of Red Bud, IL claimed a portion of the jackpot.

If you decide to purchase a Powerball ticket, you competition will be quite heavy. The game is played in 44 states and the District of Columbia, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
