Christmas break is over and some local basketball teams picked up some outstanding wins in some holiday tournaments.

Another big shout out to Rock Valley College for sponsoring this winter long contest.

Each weekend through the winter season we will be taking nominations for the team of the week. You can nominate a team from Friday afternoon till Sunday night. Every Monday we will gather up the nominations and then put it up to a vote on the 1440wrok.com website.

The winning team will be announced during the morning show on WROK with RIley and Joe and receive a $100 Visa card for their program. At the end of the season, all weekly winners will go up against each other to be named Team of the Season and receive a $500 Visa card for their program.

Here are this week's finalists:

  • Winnebago Girls Basketball - The State Farm Classic in Normal, Illinois has been a loaded holiday tournament for many years now. The Lady Indians travelled south for the break and came back with a tournament win in the small school division. A win in the State Farm Classic is usually a great sign for the season. The Winnebago girl's basketball team is one to keep an eye on.
  • South Beloit Boys Basketball - The Sobos of South Beloit picked up at big win in the Eastland holiday tournament against the host school in overtime to advance to the finals and then clinched the title with a win over Galena.
  • Rockford Christian Girls Basketball - Maybe the best play of the holiday break was from Avery Demo of Rockford Christian. Demo nailed a buzzer-beating 3 pointer to lift the Royal Lions to a consolation victory over Alleman.

Who should win the first Winter Team of the Week for 2022? You can vote below.
