This Powerful Sign and Message From Illinois Department of Transportation Will Make You Think
Because of negligence, another Illinois State Police officer was hit while tending a vehicle on the side of an Illinois highway. Incident #15 was fatal, and cost the life a wife, a daughter, and step-mom, animal lover, and a person risking their life on a daily basis to keep us safe and protected.
Perhaps you missed some of the words of Illinois State Police (ISP) Acting Director Brendan F. Kelly, "how many more have to be hurt or killed?" If that doesn't resonate maybe something he said will sink in. Those three powerful words were shared on IDOT message boards last night and likely will remain for the comings days, weeks, and months. ISP got shared an image of this message on Facebook with no actual text with the post because nothing more needs to be said.
This morning's commute was a little different for me. Surely, you could scold me with "oh, so NOW you're putting your phone out of reach" and it would be a valid remark. But, yes, I will make a point to place my phone out of sight and out of mind. Though I think I'm attentive when it comes to emergency vehicles and things happening in front of me, you never know. I feel terrible for being that person that grabs there phone just to check the notification. Albeit "only a second or two" it shouldn't happen.
Enough is enough.
