Think Illinois Doesn’t Have Enough Plows? Be Glad You Aren’t In Wisconsin

If you ask people who live in parts of Illinois that experiences a lot of snow you're likely to hear "the city doesn't have enough plows." This isn't city officials, comments, it's residents.

There's a serious problem all over Illinois, Wisconsin, and other parts of the country that all share a commonality. But, in Wisconsin, it could be a bad, bad, bad situation.

Apparently, there is an extreme shortage of snowbirds.

(A snowbird is a nickname for snowplow drivers.)

'MILWAUKEE, WE HAVE A PROBLEM'

Not even "Houston" can help navigate this potential mountain-of-a-problem.

This news report in Milwaukee indicates there could be a major hiccup in snow removal this season.

Danielle Rodriguez, director of operations for the Department of Public Works, said the department is finding it "extremely challenging" to find workers to drive the trucks.

Can you guess why this is? As stated above, it's a common theme developing around the country.

COVID-19 VACCINE MANDATE

That's one of the reasons there is a lack of drivers prepared to move snow up in Wisconsin. Another is inexperience or not having the proper credentials.

The nation has been facing a significant labor shortage, and workers with commercial drivers' licenses are in very high demand industrywide.

There is a backup plan in place but the snow removal process is expected to take longer due to the lack of CDL drivers.

The Department of Public Works in Milwaukee is considering salary and bonus adjustments to bring in more drivers.

YO, ILLINOIS, YOU GOOD ON THIS?

With people opting to quit their jobs over vaccine mandates nationwide, it's a fair question about this situation as far as Illinois is concerned.
