The Band Perry Recall That Time They Met a Beatle
Industry events like the ACM Honors are a chance for younger artists to meet their idols, and prior to the taping of Friday night's ABC broadcast, the Band Perry gushed about meeting a big one.
The "Comeback Kid" singers met Paul McCartney at the Grammys several years ago, and they felt like so many of their fans do when they get to meet Kimberly, Reid and Neil Perry. Each was nervous in their own way, but it couldn't have gone better for them.
"All the other old rockers and pop stars sort of had this giant security around them,” Kimberly says, “but Paul was just standing in the corner with a photographer sort of like making himself available to all the artists.”
“I thought that was so cool to be a Beatle and care about getting together with the community," she adds.
The Band Perry met and paid tribute to songwriter Jimmy Webb at this year's ACM Honors. When the show airs Friday night (Sept. 9), they'll sing "MacArthur Park," a song Webb wrote for Richard Harris that would later become a hit for Waylon Jennings. ACM Honors 2016 also features tributes to Crystal Gayle, the Statler Brothers and Glen Campbell. Campbell and Webb are good friends, and he's written several songs for the hitmaker, as well as hits for Billy Joel, Johnny Cash and more.
But there's nothing like meeting a Beatle.
“I’ve heard you should never meet your idols, like they’ll always disappoint," Reid adds, "But he was just the best.”
