As a parent, I always get excited when I see teens being positive role models and doing awesome things; it gives me hope that our future generations won't all be a hot mess. So, when I came across this story about a Sycamore teen named Kylie Ryder who is traveling to Orlando next week to represent Illinois in Miss America's Outstanding Teen competition, I knew I needed to share the story so we can all cheer her on.

What Is Miss America's Outstanding Teen Competition?

The goal of Miss America's Outstanding Teen competition is to "promote scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living and community involvement for America’s teens". Similar to the Miss America pageant, Outstanding Teen contestants also compete in evening wear, talent, and interview categories, and they also have a platform they advocate for throughout the competition.

Let's Get to Know Illinois' 2021 Outstanding Teen Contestant Kylie Ryder

According to shawlocal.com;

On June 18, Ryder was crowned Miss Illinois’ Outstanding Teen 2021 at the Marion Cultural and Civic Center in Marion. She also holds the title of Miss Windy City’s Outstanding Teen 2020.

During the week-long competition that begins in Orlando Monday, July 26, 2021, Kylie will be advocating for the #drive4life platform, which focuses on the dangers of distracted driving. Kylie also told shawlocal.com that; "the competition is so much more than what you think, it’s more than hair and makeup and dresses, it’s a way to learn more about social issues, education, and politics and get involved in your community. You also get to meet others, network, and form friendships."

Besides sounding like an awesome teen, Kylie has been dancing since she was 3 years old, and she is hoping her mad dance skills and sparkling, responsible personality will help her bring the Outstanding Teen tiara home to Illinois next week.

If you know Kylie Ryder, please let her know we're all rooting for her in the 815! You totally got this, girl!
