Beloved Rockford Staple, Sunrise Family Restaurant, Shuts Doors for Good
Sunrise Family Restaurant on Wansford Way in Rockford just served up some sad news: they are closing, for good.
For many years, Sunrise Family Restaurant in Rockford was our go-to spot for breakfast.
My husband and I used to live in the apartment complex behind Sunrise, and we ate many meals there before having kids.
When we bought a house in the neighborhood just a few minutes away from the restaurant, Sunrise continued to be the place we'd order carryout from for Sunday or holiday morning breakfasts. (I especially loved their Hobo Skillet)
Sunrise Family Restaurant was the first place my oldest daughter ate a pancake, so I was sad to see the announcement that it would be closing.
Sunrise Family Restaurant in Rockford to Close
On the night of Sunday, Sept. 28, Sunrise Restaurant owner, Shamil Asani, posted a message on Facebook that said in part:
This restaurant has been more than just a business — it has been a gathering place, a second home, and a part of so many lives. We've watched families grow, friendships form, and celebrations unfold right here at our tables. Those memories will stay with us forever.Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your lives. It has truly been an honor to serve you.
The Facebook announcement didn’t list a final opening day; but sadly, the restaurant now appears to be closed. The 'Hours' section on their Facebook now reads 'Permanently Closed.'
Thanks for the memories, Sunrise Family Restaurant, our Easter and Christmas Eve morning breakfasts won't be the same without you!
