Serious Baxter Road Crash on Monday Afternoon, Helicopter Called

Traffic near Baxter Road and Rt 39 remains tricky due to a crash earlier this afternoon

WREX-TV is reporting that a helicopter was been called to a crash between a pickup truck and a garbage truck. The crash occurred 5271 Baxter Rd. Traffic just east of the I39 and Baxter Road intersection is closed to travel.

Three sheriff's deputies have been called to the scene. Cherry Valley Fire officials say occupants of both vehicles needed extricated from the vehicles, and a helicopter has been called to the scene.

The accident appears to be a head-on collision between a pick-up and a garbage truck.

Traffic around the I39 and Baxter road intersections is affected, motorists are advised to avoid the area.

(UPDATE 5:20pm: Officials say it may be anywhere from two to three hours before Baxter Road is reopened)
