Any time a law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty it is a tragedy, but it is also creates many worries for the family left behind. How will the mortgage get paid? How will the kids save money for college without the support of a second income?

WIFR reported last week that the Illinois State Senate unanimously passed a bill introduced by Senator Steve Stadelman of Rockford that would make a scholarship available to the University of Illinois for the children of law enforcement officers that were killed in the line of duty.

Senator Stadelaman said;

When officers are killed in the line of duty, they’re [sic] families are often left with many burdens, this legislation recognizes that and sends a message to those families that the state will do what it can to help.”

The bill will soon be in the hands of the Illinois House of Representatives for approval. Let's hope it passes through unanimously there as well.
