Lots of Rockford-area schools have already announced they will be closed or will move to e-learning for the day, as we're staring down high temperatures that won't get past negative and bone-chilling wind that could make it feel like 40 below.

National Weather Service Issues Extreme Cold Warning For Northern Illinois

It makes sense, considering the National Weather Service issued an extreme cold warning for northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. The warning will go into effect on Friday at 3 a.m. Before temperatures drop to nearly unfathomable levels, many schools have already made their decision.

  • Dekalb
  • Durand
  • Freeport
  • Genoa Kingston
  • Harlem
  • Hiawatha
  • Hononegah
  • Lena-Winslow
  • Meridian
  • Oregon
  • Pearl City
  • Rochelle
  • Rockford
  • Stockton
  • Warren

Of these, DeKalb, Durand, and Hononegah will have remote classes.
