If you can afford it, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse is a solid night out.

We’re talking steaks, wine, the whole nine yards.

Ruth’s Chris has locations in Naperville, South Barrington, and Northbrook in Illinois, and because the place is high-end, they decided to remind diners of their business-casual dress code.

What Ruth’s Chris Dress Code Requires

What that means is no baseball hats, no gym clothes, and by all means, no exposed undergarments.

It shouldn’t be all that shocking when you consider steaks at places like these cost more than your first car payment.

Then out of seemingly nowhere, Chili’s comes in and absolutely dunks on Ruth’s Chris on social media, saying “The only dress code at Chili’s is that you have to be dressed.”

Chili’s Social Media Response Goes Viral

Bravo to the Chili’s social media manager, who doubled down in the comments, riffing and going back and forth with fans of the post.

They joked about sipping margaritas with their pinkies out, like it was a fine-dining establishment.

This does actually create a good point. Do you want a restaurant that forces its diners to class it up a bit with a dress code, or do you want a place that says “Just show up and eat?”

In 2026, people don’t want to be told what to wear, but then again, maybe don’t roll into a steakhouse in a tank top and flip-flops?
