Two years shy of its twentieth anniversary, the owner of Roxy Carmichael Boutique in Rockford has made a bittersweet decision.

The Importance of Shopping Local

Rockford has seen a lot of changes over the last few decades, some bad, but mostly good.

I have lived in the Rockford area for over 40 years, and I've always felt that one of the things that gives our city its unique character is the number of locally owned shops that line our streets. Sadly, every year we see more of these small businesses closing, and every time it happens, it feels like we lose a little piece of what makes Rockford special.

Owning a brick and mortar store in an online shopping age is a tough gig, and many small businesses fold from the pressure. Others, however, learn to thrive; they adapt, and they take the time to build meaningful and lasting relationships with their customers. This is what makes local businesses so special, and this is also what makes it so hard to see them go.

Roxy Carmichael Boutique Is Closing

Roxy Carmichael Boutique, located at 1617A N Alpine Road, opened in 2007, and is currently owned by Chris LaMantia who purchased the business in 2018.

The store prides itself on being a place where "style meets sophistication and every woman feels her best". It's been a go-to place for women all over the Rockford area to find clothing for any occasion, and a place where they can enjoy a personal and special shopping experience.

Now, here comes the bad news. The time has come for Roxy Carmichael to say goodbye:

While Rockford area women may be sad to see Roxy Carmichael go, I'm happy to see it is closing on its own terms. Congratulations, and enjoy your well-earned retirement! (Now the rest of us better go there and snag some great deals!)
