A man was killed early Tuesday morning (2/21) after the van he was driving apparently hit a tree on North Rockton Road.

According to the press release from the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office, the crash was reported by someone passing through the area around 5 am Tuesday before deputies responded to the 11300 block of N. Rockton Road.

When Sheriff Deputies arrived on the scene, they immediately discovered a white van that had crashed into a tree and a deceased male inside of the vehicle. The man who was killed in the accident was the only occupant, according to the press release.

After an autopsy by the Winnebago County Coroner, the man has been identified as 39-year-old Matthew Brown of Rockton, Illinois.

Preliminary autopsy findings revealed that Mr. Brown died from blunt trauma of the head due to a motor vehicle crash. -Jennifer P. Muraski, Winnebago Co. Coroner

An investigation into the cause of the fatal accident is ongoing by the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office.
