The City of Rockford provided an update on the Davis Park Improvement Project, which began on September 30, 2025, and is continuing to advance on schedule.

Construction Timeline and Project Overview

According to the City of Rockford press release, Davis Park at Founders Landing remains closed, as crews work toward a Spring 2026 completion.

The park is closed to the public as construction teams focus on major upgrades designed to modernize the long-utilized riverfront space.

Major Upgrades Transforming the Riverfront

City officials report that the project includes extensive site improvements such as seawall repairs, realigned river walk paths, and enhancements to the multi-use trail network.

A custom-designed playground and a full skatepark are also being installed, transforming the park into a more versatile recreational destination.

Additional work includes grading and landscaping improvements, and the construction of a new parking lot south of the railroad tracks.

New Buildings and Improved Amenities

The improvement plan also calls for two new buildings, a concession and multi-use facility, and a performance stage equipped with a greenroom.

These additions are expected to support larger events and increase community use of the park once it reopens in 2026.

Detours and Public Access Restrictions

The City of Rockford maintains traffic control measures and detours to guide drivers and pedestrians around the active construction zone.

River walk users are being directed to South Main Street on both ends of Davis Park, according to the press release.

Funding for the Davis Park improvement project is through a combination of State grants and City of Rockford funds.
