Rockford's fireworks show is not paid for with taxpayer money, it's strictly donations. Right now there's concern because  they're short $6,500.

Taxpayer dollars are not used to fund Rockford's 4th Of July fireworks show. While the city, the county, and the Rockford Park District provide crowd control and security, the 30-minute fireworks display is paid for through donations. Melrose Pyrotechnics of Indiana is charging $63,500 for this year's completely computerized show and the Rockford Fourth of July Committee is $6,500 short of paying that bill according to the RRstar. The committee is accepting donations so the show won't have to be canceled.

You can also toss a few bucks in the buckets that will lead off the parade at 7 p.m..

Davis Park is one of the best viewing spots for the fireworks show. But there's another cool place to watch the show this year as well.
