The city of Rockford announced Thursday the final week of yard waste collection will be Dec. 1-4.

According to a press release from the city, yard waste will not be collected from Rockford homes until spring 2015. The compost site will be closed until that time.

Yard waste is defined by Rock River Disposal as being grass clippings, leave and small branches from residential property.

Yard waste is collected on corresponding garbage days in Rockford during the seasonal collection times. It must be placed in paper bags that can be composted or in garbage cans marked with a large "X" and not weigh more than 50 lbs.

Branches are required to be collected in 3- to 4-foot bundles. Branches also should not be thicker than 4 inches.
