
Rockford Police Arrest 18-Year-Old After Armed Robbery, Stolen Vehicle Crash
An 18-year-old is under arrest following an armed robbery, a stolen vehicle crash, and a foot chase.in Rockford early this morning (Tuesday).
Stolen Vehicle Located After Armed Robbery
According to a press release from the Rockford Police Department, SCOPE (Specialized Community Oriented Police Enforcement) officers were able to locate a vehicle that had been stolen during an armed robbery on Tuesday morning (1/13).

Officers found the vehicle in the area of Pepper Drive and North Alpine Road, where the suspect attempted to flee when RPD officers attempted to make contact.
Squad Car Struck During Attempted Escape
During their attempt to stop the suspect's vehicle, a Rockford Police Department squad car was struck when the individual attempted to drive away from the scene.
No serious injuries were reported, according to the report, and RPD immediately began to search the area for the driver after the suspect fled on foot following the collision.
Suspect Captured Following Brief Manhunt
A short time after the suspect fled the scene, officers spotted the individual running near Charles Street and 30th Street, and later found them hiding behind a residence in the 3400 block of Charles Street.

According to the report, the suspect has been identified as 18-year-old Logan Whittington of Rockford. Police confirmed Whittington had the stolen vehicle's keys in his possession at the time of his arrest.
Firearm Recovered, Multiple Felony Charges Filed
A Rockford Police K-9 unit also located a firearm near the area where Whittington was taken into custody, and after reviewing the case, the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office authorized the following charges:
- Armed Robbery
- Vehicle Theft
- Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
- Criminal Damage to Government Property
- Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (2)
- Aggravated Fleeing to Elude
- Revoked Driver’s License
According to the press release, Whittington was being lodged in the Winnebago County jail.
