The month-long event invites local chefs to create innovative vegan dishes, offering residents and visitors a chance to explore a rapidly growing segment of the Illinois food scene. Running through May 31, the challenge positions Rockford as a key player in the Midwest's evolving vulinary landscape.
Organizers say the initiative is designed not only to highlight creativity in the kitchen but also to encourage diners to consider the environmental and health impacts of their food choices.

There are already 13 businesses confirmed to participate in Rockford's Vegan Chef Challenge:
- Prairie Street Brewing Co.

How Diners Can Participate
The challenge will follow a simple format: diners explore participating restaurants, try featured dishes, and submit ratings online. Community feedback will play a major role in determining the winners, who will be announced in June.

Alongside the competition, the event promotes the "10 Weeks to Vegan" program, a guided initiative that helps participants gradually transition to plant-based eating through weekly goals, recipes, and nutritional guidance.
