An Illinois man wanted for outstanding warrants thought he found a "cool" place to evade law enforcement, and now he's facing serious drug charges.

Rockford Man Found Hiding in Gas Station Cooler

According to the Rockford Police Department press release, SCOPE officers were doing a routine patrol in the S. Alpine Road area around 5:45 pm on Wednesday (5/7) when they recognized a man believed to have outstanding warrants exit his vehicle and walk into a gas station.

When officers followed the suspect into the gas station, he attempted to hide inside a refrigerated cooler in the store.

Rockford Police identified the suspect as 20-year-old Jamaris Flint Jr. of Rockford, who had two outstanding warrants: one for Aggravated Discharge of a Weapon, and the other for a Traffic offense.

During a search of the vehicle that Flint Jr. exited before being arrested, nearly 20 grams of crack cocaine were found, along with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Jamaris Flint Jr. was immediately taken into custody and lodged in the Winnebago County Jail, according to the report.

Charges Filed by State's Attorney's Office

After reviewing the details of the case, the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office authorized the following charges against the 20-year-old man from Rockford:

  • Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance
  • Revoked Driver's License
  • Cited for 2 Outstanding Warrants
