A deadly shooting of a teenager on the city's southeast side early on Friday morning (5/9) has led to the arrest of a Rockford man.

According to the Rockford PD press release, officers responded to a local hospital where a walk-in shooting victim had reportedly arrived.

Despite efforts to save the individual, they were pronounced dead shortly after. The individual who was shot and killed was identified as 19-year-old Ethan Austin of Rockford.

Teen Killed During Overnight Altercation

Rockford Police say there was a physical altercation that happened in the Broadway Food and Liquor parking lot at 2710 Broadway when the shooting took place.

The RPD Violent Crime and Gang Unit has taken up this case and launched an investigation into the fatal incident, according to the press release.

Suspect in Custody, Charged with First Degree Murder

By Friday afternoon (5/9), detectives were able to identify and locate the suspect, Andre Moreland, in the 3200 block of Maryland Road. He was arrested without any incident on an outstanding warrant.

Later, Moreland was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Austin's death, after the case was reviewed by the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office.

Moreland is being held in the Winnebago County Jail, and Rockford Police remind the public that the charges are merely accusations until proven in court.
