Expect Traffic Trouble at These Rockford Intersections This Week
A heads-up for some Rockford motorists this week, with repairs and road work planned at two busy intersections causing possible traffic delays.
Road Work Will Impact Rockford Drivers
The City of Rockford has two separate road closures planned this week to make repairs to stormwater infrastructure, so there could be delays on your commute.
The first closure begins Wednesday, September 23, at Parkview Avenue and Pelham Road. Crews will begin working in the northbound lane of Parkview to Pelham to repair a storm inlet on the southbound corner of the intersection.
Use caution when traveling through the area, and make sure to slow down for workers.
Work Moves Across Parkview
Once that work is completed, contractors will move across the street to the southbound lane to repair the lateral storm inlet.
Drivers traveling through the area should expect barrels, signs, and construction equipment in the roadway.
The city expects the work to be completed and the road reopened to normal traffic by the end of the day Friday, September 25, weather permitting.
Jefferson Street Closure Starts Thursday
Another closure begins Thursday, September 24, at West Jefferson Street and North Church Street. Contractors will close the southernmost westbound lane of W. Jefferson Street while crews repair a failing stormwater inlet at the intersection.
That work is also expected to be completed by the end of the day Friday, September 25, weather permitting.
Drivers Urged to Use Caution
Traffic control will be in place in both work zones, and motorists are being encouraged to avoid the areas and plan an alternate route if possible.
Drivers who must pass through the construction zones should use extreme caution and watch for workers, equipment, barrels, and changing traffic patterns.
With both projects scheduled to wrap up Friday, motorists could see temporary delays through the end of the week.
