
Arrest Made in Armed Robbery at Broadway Post Office in Rockford
An arrest has been made following an armed robbery in broad daylight at a post office in Rockford on Wednesday (5/28).

According to the Rockford Police Department, officers were dispatched around 3 pm to the U.S. Post Office at 1140 Broadway in Rockford for reports of a man entering the facility with a gun and demanding money.

Multi-Agency Investigation Leads to a Quick Arrest
Rockford PD detectives coordinated with U.S. Postal Inspectors and immediately launched an investigation into the incident.
By Tuesday afternoon (5/27), detectives identified 58-year-old Anthony Johnson from Rockford, Illinois, as a suspect in the robbery.

While executing a search warrant on Johnson's apartment, he attempted to escape by entering a neighboring apartment, but was quickly apprehended without any incident, according to the Rockford PD.
Charges Filed Against Anthony Johnson
After reviewing evidence in the case, the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office approved the following charges against 58-year-old Anthony Johnson of Rockford:
- 2 Counts of Armed Robbery
- Aggravated Robbery
- Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon
- Criminal Trespass to a Residence
Johnson is currently being held in the Winnebago County Jail, and additional charges may be pending as the investigation continues, according to Rockford Police.
