Rockford Police Officer Injured By Drunk-Texting Driver
A Rockford Police Officer was injured this week while assisting at the scene of an accident late Tuesday night. According to the report, the officer was sitting in his squad car while blocking traffic near the scene of an accident at Kishwaukee Street and 8th Avenue. The officer's vehicle was struck by a 29-year-old woman just after 11 p.m.
The officer was taken to a Rockford hospital with minor injuries. The driver, believed to be under the influence of alcohol and texting, was not injured. However, she's been charged with Driving Under the Influence and cited for Failure to Reduce Speed, Violating Scott’s Law, and Operating an Electronic Communications Device, according to WTVO.
