Officers arrived on the scene around 7 pm and found a 39-year-old man critically injured after his ATV collided with the trailer of the semi.

The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported for emergency medical treatment.

Police Stress ATV Restrictions in Rockford

Following the crash, Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd issued a reminder that ATVs, dirt bikes, and other off-road vehicles are strictly prohibited on city streets.

"These vehicles are not designed for roadway travel, and operating them in traffic creates significant risk for riders, motorists, and pedestrians, as evidenced by last night's crash," Redd said.

RPD also noted that ATVs on public roadways have been a growing concern around Rockford, with Police saying they are committed to enforcing city ordinances to prevent any future ATV accidents.

Community Asked to Report ATV Activity

The Rockford Police Department is urging residents to help curb illegal ATV activity by reporting offenders. A $200 reward is being offered for tips that lead to the arrest or confiscation of ATVs or other off-road vehicles.
