Rockford Police Department detectives have arrested two juvenile suspects and an adult couple in connection with a series of violent crimes that occurred in the city.

Two Juveniles Arrested in Connection with Violent Crimes

The investigation began on September 23, 2024, when a married couple was attacked while walking in the 2200 block of S. Mulford Road.

The two juvenile suspects, a 13-year-old male, and a 14-year-old male, were identified as being involved in several similar incidents in the vicinity of the Twenty-Fifth Street Playground.

These incidents included harassing residents, slapping an elderly man, throwing rocks at him, and pointing a gun at an adult man, according to the Rockford PD press release.

Detectives Execute Search Warrants

Detectives obtained arrest warrants for the juvenile suspects and search warrants for their residences. On Thursday, October 3, 2024, they executed one of the search warrants and arrested the 14-year-old suspect.

While executing the second search warrant, detectives also arrested a 33-year-old man, Carl Smith, who was found to have a robbery warrant out of Indiana.

Adult Couple Arrested at Residence

During Smith's arrest, officers discovered a 3-month-old baby unattended inside the residence.

When the baby's mother, Katherine Weinsheim, arrived, she was uncooperative and made threats toward the detectives. She was arrested and lodged in the County Jail.

The newborn was taken into protective custody, according to the press release.

During the residence search, detectives found a firearm stolen from Mississippi, a large amount of counterfeit United States currency, and a printer used to print counterfeit currency.

Juveniles and Adults Face Multiple Charges

Both juvenile suspects and the adult couple face multiple charges, including aggravated battery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm, resisting a peace officer, and forgery.

The charges are merely accusations, and all individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
