
Rockford Police Arrest Attempted Murder Suspect Wanted in Indiana
An early morning shooting in Rockford led law enforcement to a suspect who reportedly was connected to an attempted murder case in Indiana.
Early Morning Shooting on Rome Avenue
According to the Rockford Police press release, officers responded to a residence around 5:30 am on January 8 in the 600 block of Rome Avenue after getting a report of a gunshot victim.

When RPD arrived on the scene they located a 38-year-old man suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and transported him to a Rockford hospital.
Investigation Identifies Suspect
Following the shooting incident on Rome Avenue, RPD Detectives launched an investigation and identified 27-year-old Damajae McKenzie as the suspect, who is known to the victim.
McKenzie was also wanted in Lake County, Indiana for Attempted Murder, so Detectives worked with law enforcement agencies to track his movements.
On Wednesday (2/12), McKenzie was finally taken into custody by U.S. Marshalls in Calumet City, Illinois.
Charges Filed as Investigation Continues
After reviewing the details of this case, the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office filed the following charges against Damajae McKenzie:
- Aggravated Battery
- Aggravated Domestic Battery
According to the press release, additional charges and arrests may be following as Rockford Police Detectives continue to investigate.
