A northside Rockford neighboorhood has seen a spike in crime ranging from deflated tires to stolen vehicles and, though not as extreme, mailbox smashers were caught on camera late Sunday morning.

This specific incident captured on a security camera happened in the area of Pepper Drive and Ramblewood Lane, a.k.a Spices and Trees neighborhood. In the video, four individuals are walking the street when one approaches a mailbox and decides it should be kicked.

The footage is grainy but it's still clear enough to show an individual kicking down the mailbox, which is considered federal property. The punishment, if caught and prosecuted, can be up a $250,000, up to three years in prison, and more.
