The Rockford Police have announced they will join a statewide push to stop impaired driving and enforce seatbelt laws from August 15 through Labor Day.

Law Enforcement Targets Dangerous Driving This Labor Day

Rockford PD will be stepping up enforcement efforts to reduce driving under the influence and unsafe driving during the busy Labor Day travel period.

From August 15 through the early morning hours of September 2, Rockford officers will be patrolling city streets as part of Illinois' Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, Drive High Get a DUI, and Click It or Ticket campaigns.

Focus on Impairment and Seatbelt Enforcement

In addition to targeting alcohol-impaired drivers, officers will be looking for motorists under the influence of cannabis and other drugs.

The campaign also emphasizes seatbelt compliance, one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent serious injury or death in a crash, according to the press release.

All passengers, whether in the front or back seat, must be buckled up during every trip.

Statewide Support to Save Lives

The local initiative is part of a larger campaign supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation, funded through federal highway safety grants.
