The City of Rockford, Illinois has announced a new program to help protect our stormwater system, but many residents are reading it entirely, and hilariously, wrong.

Things Spring Always Brings in Rockford

I don't think I'm alone when I say spring is my least favorite season in Illinois, primarily because of its inconsistencies.

One day you're outdoors enjoying sunshine and 70 degree temps really looking forward to all the summer fun ahead, then the next day it's raining and freezing and you're quickly reminded that summer is still a ways away.

Besides the weather rollercoaster that spring brings to Illinois, I think there are a few other things residents can always count on:

  1. Sitting at a sports game in the rain and wind.
  2. LOTS of yardwork.
  3. Seasonal allergies.

For the purpose of this article, let's focus on the yardwork aspect. Specifically, what the the City of Rockford needs residents to help them with this season.

Rockford's New Adopt-A-Drain Program

Over the weekend I saw the City of Rockford share this post that made me a do a double take:

Don't get me wrong, I think residents taking the initiative to keep our storm drains clear of debris and help maintain the city's water quality is vitally important, BUT am I the only one that it said "Adopt-A-Brain" at first glance?

The answer is no, I was not the only one. LOL!

Here are some comments from the City Of Rockford's post that made me giggle;

At first glance, I thought it said Adopt A Brain. That would make more sense.

I thought it said adopt a brain , I know there is a lot of people that could use one.

Honestly, I was a little disappointed to see how many people were also complaining about this new program saying it was not their job to do, that's what our tax dollars are for, etc.

Here's the way I see it; helping to keep these storm drains clear prevents YOUR basement from flooding and improves YOUR water quality. Is it really going to kill you to take a little extra time to help out? Sheesh.
