Rockford's Home Rule referendum failed. Now what? Probably increased or taxes and possible job cuts within the City of Rockford. Though, none of those are officially confirmed. But, in past interviews and forums, Rockford mayor Tom McNamara said a utility tax wouldn't be out of the picture should Home Rule not pass. So, what could happen since Home Rule did not pass?

According to a document shared by Rockford Home Rule's Facebook page (also mailed as a public flyer), these scenarios could be in the city's future.

  • Establish a Utility Tax
  • Higher property taxes.
  • Cuts to public safety, emergency, and public works.

According to RRStar.com, Mayor McNamara isn't ready to decide on giving a Home Rule referendum another run.
