I usually try to give you a few days notice of celestial happenings like this one, but somehow Wednesday's supermoon occurrence completely slipped past my attention. Just so it doesn't slip your mind too, you might want to go ahead and set your alarm to go off a bit earlier than normal tomorrow morning.

It'll be worth it, since tomorrow's Full Buck Moon should be pretty spectacular.

Looking Ahead At The Overnight Weather Forecast, Conditions Should Be Perfect For Supermoon Viewing In And Around The Rockford Area

According to the experts at Chicago's Adler Planetarium, on Wednesday, the moon will be approximately 222,000 miles from earth, which is about 17,000 miles closer than it is normally, and a full supermoon appears to look about 15 percent bigger and brighter than an average full moon.

When it comes to moon viewing, so far this year, the Rockford area has gotten at least a peek at January's Wolf Moon, February's Snow Moon, March's Worm Moon, April's Pink Moon, May's Flower Moon, and June's Strawberry Moon.

With clear skies overnight, this will be the best moon-viewing atmosphere we've had yet in 2022.

Assuming You Feel Like Dragging Your Butt Out Of Bed Early To See Wednesday's Buck Moon Supermoon, Here's When You Should Do It

I'm already going to be up (part of the job description), since my alarm goes off at 3am, but you can actually sleep in about a half hour longer than I do--plus, you can go back to bed once you've seen enough of the supermoon.

So, plan on getting up at around 3:30am, since the full moon reaches perigee (its closest approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit) at about 3:50am to 4am for the best viewing experience.

If you miss it, you'll have to wait until 2023 for the next supermoon.
