An investigation is underway following a fatal automobile collision early Tuesday morning (11/15) just south of Rockford in the village of New Milford.

According to a press release from the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department, the crash was reported just before 4 am on Tuesday and when deputies arrived on the scene discovered two vehicles that had collided.

The Ford Edge was going west on New Milford School road and being driven by a 50-year-old man when his vehicle made impact in the intersection with an Acura RDX being driven by a 25-year-old female who was traveling northbound on 11th Street.

There were no passengers in either of the vehicles involved and both injured drivers were taken to a local hospital where the 50-year-old driver of the Edge was pronounced dead.

According to the press release, the female driver of the Acura is still listed in serious condition at a local Rockford hospital.

The Major Crash Assitance Team along with the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into the crash and no further details are available at this time.

With the investigation into this incident just beginning, we've not gotten any indication that the fatal crash may have been caused by overnight weather conditions.
