Driving around Illinois with large items sticking out of your car windows might make for an interesting sight, but is it actually illegal? Well, the short answer is: it depends.

Dumb Illinois Drivers

When scrolling through social media it doesn't usually take long to see a pic of a driver doing stupid things.

From weird license plates to horrible parking jobs, social media users sure love to point out the weird things they see other drivers doing. Some of the pics I like to see most are of drivers taking “improv hauling” to new heights, and they tend to show up more regularly during the holiday shopping season.

From Christmas trees to kayaks, tying down cargo properly doesn't seem to be a skill many Illinois drivers have, and I am here for it all! (Unless I am driving near one of these "creative" drivers LOL).

Illinois Safe Driving Laws

Before I show you the ridiculous picture I saw on my social media feed this week, let's quickly go over some of Illinois' safe driving laws. Particularly, this part:

No person shall drive a motor vehicle with any objects placed or suspended between the driver and the rear window, side wings, or side windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver which materially obstructs the driver's view.

Now, I'm no legal expert, but I'm pretty sure driving like this will definitely score you a ticket...

That ladder may be hanging out behind the driver, but I think it's safe to say that their view is massively disrupted, plus, how the heck is another car supposed to drive around or next to it?

I get that desperate times call for desperate measures, but this is taking things way too far, literally.
