After barely surviving several days with heat indexes well above 100 degrees last weekend, there's more extreme heat this upcoming weekend for the Rockford region and Chicagoland.

Temps Surge Back Into the 90s

After a very brief couple of days with less scorching temps, the heat is surging back, with highs expected to reach the mid-90s across the region.

Rockford is expected to be in the upper 80s on Wednesday (6/25) with rain and a thunderstorm possible, and in the mid-90s on Thursday (6/26), with possible heat indexes around 100, according to the latest forecast from The Weather Channel.

Chicago is expected to see temperatures reach 94, with heat indexes around 100, while Milwaukee is forecasted to be cooler, but still hot, with a high of around 90.

Heat Index Over 100 Expected

While a Heat Dome covered the Midwest and most of the eastern half of the U.S. last week, heat indexes were up to 110 to 115 in some parts, causing a road to buckle in Missouri.

Hopefully, our roads across the Stateline will stay intact this upcoming weekend, as the heat index gets right back into the triple-digits.

Saturday and Sunday are expected to be the hottest, with heat indexes around 100 to 105, causing heat-related illnesses. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat, and check on vulnerable neighbors and family members.

Slight Relief MAY Arrive Early Next Week

Thunderstorms are expected on Sunday (6/29 and will continue into early Monday (6/30), when temperatures will cool down a bit into the mid-80s, which will feel great compared to over 100 degrees.
