Rockford Police Arrest Multiple Suspects in Armed Robbery Spree

A series of armed robberies that happened over the past month in Rockford has led to multiple arrests, including several members of the same family.

Three Armed Robberies Linked by Violent Crimes Detectives

According to a Rockford Police Department press release, the Violent Crimes Unit has been investigating the robberies that happened in these locations:

• December 28, 2004: 4000 block of Harrison Avenue
• January 30, 2025: 800 block of 7th Street
• February 6, 2025: 1100 block of Railroad Avenue

According to the report, two suspects allegedly robbed victims at gunpoint, stealing cash and cellphones.

The first robbery reportedly began with a cannabis sale arrangement, while the other involved victims who were followed before being targeted.

Woodson Family at Center of Investigation

Detectives from the Rockford Police Department identified brothers Elijah Woodson, 22, and Marquel Woodson, 21, as suspects, obtaining warrants for their arrest.

Upon executing a search warrant at a home in the 1200 block of 6th Avenue, police encountered their older brother, Maurice Woodson, 23, who initially refused to allow entry.

Officers forced the door open, arresting Maurice along with Elijah and Marquel.

Inside the home, detectives discovered two loaded firearms and cannabis packaged for sale. Their sister, 18-year-old Swennekia Woodson, faces charges of possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.

A fourth man, Omareon Loper, 22, was also arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Multiple Charges Filed, Police Seek More Information

The Winnebago County State's Attorney authorized charges, including armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and obstructing justice.

At the time this story was published, the suspects remained in custody at the Winnebago County Jail.
