One of Rockford's major throughfares will be closed beginning next week for water main work, so using an alternate route may be beneficial.

Temporary Closure Announced

According to a press release from the City of Rockford, both lanes of 9th Street will be closed to traffic between 11th Avenue and 10th Avenue, beginning Monday (9/29) at 7 am.

The area will remain closed throughout the day as crews work on a water main project that is connected to improvements on 7th Street.

Detours in Place

Motorists who travel around the 9th Street area will notice detours moving traffic westbound on 11th Avenue to 7th Street, where they will be able to continue north.

Officials from the City of Rockford noted that all businesses within the closure zone will remain open during the water main work, with detour signs posted to help customers reach their destinations.

Project Timeline and Safety

Work on the water main on 9th Street is scheduled to be done by the end of the day on September 29, but completion is dependent on weather conditions.

Motorists are urged to remain cautious around the work zone and make sure to obey posted signs in the construction area.

Impact on Rockford Drivers

While the closure is expected to only last about a day, drivers should plan for possible delays and allow extra travel time for the morning and afternoon commute.

Motorists might also want to plan an alternate route, at least on Monday (9/29), when the construction is expected to be completed by the end of the day, according to the press release.
