Heading back to the radio station from Churchills Grove this afternoon (Thursday) around 2:30 pm I noticed a heavy presence of emergency vehicles parked on the Auburn Street bridge.

Personnel from the Rockford Fire Department and Winnebago Sheriff were all standing on the banks of the Rock River, all focused on the water.

Now I know why.

Body of Man Found in Rock River

According to a press release from the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded around 2:15 pm on Thursday for a report of a body in the Rock River

With assistance from the Rockford Fire Department and the Winnebago County Coroner, authorities were able to recover the body of the black male who was located in the river near the Auburn Street bridge, according to the press release.

The identity of the man and the cause of death is unknown as the investigation is just beginning, and an autopsy is scheduled with the Winnebago County Coroner.
