You have about a month to get your team together.

Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful has announced that they will be organizing the Rockford area effort for the Great American Cleanup. It will be held on April 24th from 9 AM till noon. Get your team together, decide what you want to clean up, and then register at the KNIB.org website.

Don't worry about bringing supplies. As long as you register by April 16th, Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful will provide everything you need, you just need to provide yourself.

From their press release:

Supplies are provided and include litter grabbers, vests, gloves and garbage bags. There will be various locations to pick up and return the supplies but you do need to pre-register with that location. Supplies can be picked up at the location you signed up at from 8:30-9AM on April 24 and returned the same day from 12-12:30PM.

Again, you get to pick what public space you clean up. Is there a park nearby that has become an eyesore. An abandoned building on a lot that has gone ignored. Anything that you want spruced up in your neighborhood is fair game. All that's required out of you is to register, get your group together, and show up Saturday morning on April 24th ready to put in a few hours work.

It's a great nationwide event that has been benefitting communities for years.

This looks great on college applications. Get your high schooler to get some friends together and clean up a local park. Family, friends, co-workers, get them all involved and take some pride in your community.
