As if 2020 hasn't been creepy enough, this Halloween brings a lunar rarity.

Thie Americas haven't seen a blue full moon since March of 2018. It's also worth noting that this is the first All Hallows Eve blue full moon to happen in all time zones since 1944, per the Farmer's Almanac.

This is where that whole expression once in a blue moon comes from. According to NASA, it means something so rare you'd be lucky (or unlucky) to see in your lifetime because these blue full moons tend to only happen once every two and a half years on average.

Does this mean the Halloween night's sky will look blue? Sadly no it doesn't.

NASA's National Space Science Data Center says this is what a second full moon of the month is called.

It's still a full moon on Halloween and it's a rare kind of full moon, so if anything extra spooky happens this may be the cause.
