Popular Chain Closing Stores in Illinois, Ohio

It seems like every week we're getting news of national chain stores closing their doors and this week is no different.

Best Buy, David's Bridal, Wal-Mart, and Bed, Bath, and Beyond are some of the more recent national chains that have announced the closing of stores.

Illinois, Ohio Locations Losing Discount Grocer

According to the U.S. Sun, an Aldi in Canton, Ohio closed its door earlier this week but all the employees were able to transfer to different stores, including a new Aldi location that just opened and isn't far from the store that closed.

However, the Aldi store in Illinois won't have a new location near the neighborhood where it's closing.

Discount Grocer Permanently Closing Rockford, Illinois Location

The Aldi location at 3831 Auburn Street on the west side of Rockford will be closing its doors "for good", according to the U.S. Sun.

Closing of the Aldi location in Rockford won't happen overnight but is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving.

West Side of Rockford Could Become a Food Desert

With the upcoming closure of Aldi's Auburn Street location, and a food pantry on the west end of Rockford shutting its doors, many are sounding the alarm about the threat of a food desert, according to the U.S. Sun article.

A food desert is an area that has limited access to affordable and nutritious food

The new location of Aldi's will be in the 3800 block of West Riverside Boulevard, according to The Sun.
