My wife forwarded me this selection of photos and I went from grateful to terrified. This is the abandoned Nelson Knitting Company in Rockford, famous for making Sock Monkeys. DecayingMidwest

The building located at 909 S. Main St in Rockford has been empty for quite some time, and man is it scary looking! Decaying Midwest goes around our area and beyond to check out structures like this. From abandoned factories to abandoned $20 million mansions, crazy!

Ok, back to Rockford. Here's the story on the Nelson Knitting Factory "Sock Monkeys."

In 1932, the Nelson Knitting Company in Rockford, IL invented a work sock with a trademarked red heel. These socks became known as “Rockfords.” Not only were they the most popular work sock of their time, they became the basis for one of the most popular and long-lasting toys. When made into a doll, the red sock heel created a distinctive red mouth. - Sock Monkey Love

So Decaying Midwest went inside of this abandoned Rockford structure, and what did they find??

I found yarn samples, socks, and a few other things like bats living inside. - DecayingMidwest

Eww. Gross.

The business operated from 1880 until 1992, and then it was left alone. Historical site in Rockford, why yes it is! An abandoned building filled with crap that could be a potential fire hazard? There's that too.

Let's take a look at some of these pictures of the abandoned Nelson Knitting Company in Rockford, thanks to Decaying Midwest. If you click their link you can see photos and videos and help them fund these research trips they take, it's all REALLY well done!
